History

The founder of W.A. De Silva & Co, Mr. Warusavithana Ariyasena De Silva, gained his technical skills & passion for the watch industry in his adolescent years by working part time at his brother's watch shop in his hometown Ambalangoda. The years of exposure & experiences in watch repairs, coupled with his entrepreneurial vision, made him open up his own shop in a strategic location in the heart of Colombo in 1948. The shop (100 meters from Colombo's main transportation hub) on Front Street, led people from all over the country to W.A De Silva & Co for all their watch & clock desires. Over the years of operation, the company gained a reputation for providing genuine products and unmatched customer service to all its customers. Soon W. A. De Silva became well known by the people around the country. In 1968, his continuous passion for the watch industry steered him into manufacturing mechanical clocks under his own brand name. The brand had a wide range of timepieces such as alarm clocks, wall clocks, watchman clocks and clocks for clock towers. The sales and production of W. A. De Silva's local brand was a great success. In 1973, the company ventured into international brands of watches. Today, W. A. De Silva & Co. is proud of its popularly in the watch industry for having the strongest retail network & a reputation for providing genuine products and equal after sale services.
